Stevenson Men's Soccer Selected To Host ECAC South Tournament First-Round Game Against Lebanon Valley
After posting 11 wins and advancing to the CAC semifinals for
the second consecutive season, the Stevenson men's soccer team was
selected to its second consecutive ECAC Division III South
Championship on Monday and the fourth-seeded Mustangs will host
fifth-seeded Lebanon Valley at Caves Athletics Complex on Wednesday
at 1:30 p.m.
Stevenson (11-5-3) went 0-1-1 in its first-ever postseason
appearance a year ago, edging Penn State Altoona on penalty kicks
in the first round before falling to CAC rival Wesley in the
semifinals at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, 3-2.
The Mustangs could find themselves making a return trip to Erie
again this year as Penn State Behrend earned the top-seed in the
tournament for the second-straight season. The defending champion
Nittany Lions will host eighth-seed Bethany on Wednesday and the
four first round winners will head to site of the highest remaining
seed for the semifinals on Saturday.
The title game of the ECAC Division III South Championship will
take place on Saturday. Behrend is
Stevenson is 0-3 all-time against Lebanon Valley, including 0-1 at
home. The Mustangs dropped the last meeting between the two teams,
2-0 on the road on Sept. 8, 2008. They also lost back-to-back
decisions in 1997 and 1998, losing a 1-0 at home on Nov. 3,
1998.
Lebanon Valley is making its fourth appearance in the ECAC Division
III South Championship where it has posted a 2-3 record with
previous appearances in 2002, 2004 and 2009. The Dutchmen went 1-1
a year ago, falling to eventual champion Penn State Behrend in the
semifinals, 1-0.
