Salisbury Senior James Burton and Junior Aaron Leeds Sweep CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Accolades

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury swept this week's conference awards as senior James Burton and junior Aaron Leeds were selected as the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for April 11, 2016.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior James Burton was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying three goals and eight assists in victories over Christopher Newport and Frostburg State. Burton opened the week with two goals and a career-high six assists in a 19-5 victory over CNU. He followed that up with a goal and two assists in a 13-3 triumph against Frostburg State. The eight-assist week brings his CAC-leading mark to 33, while he scored his three goals on the week on just four shots (.750 shooting percentage).

Salisbury junior Aaron Leeds was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading a defense that allowed just 12 shots on goal per game while conceding only eight goals on the week. Against Christopher Newport, Leeds scooped up five groundballs and added a caused turnover. Against Frostburg State, he had a career day, scooping up seven groundballs and causing six turnovers to end the week with 12 groundballs and seven caused turnovers.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Just one week remains in the conference regular season... Salisbury (7-0) and York (6-0) remain unbeaten in CAC play and will clash on Wednesday in York, Pa. in a battle for first place ... Four CAC teams are in this week's national rankings. Salisbury is No. 1 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine rankings. York is ranked No. 7 by the USILA and No. 14 by Nike/Lacrosse Magazine, Christopher Newport is No. 18 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll and receiving votes from the USILA, and Frostburg State is receiving votes from the USILA ... Salisbury (15-0) is one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the country along with RIT (11-0) ... Christopher Newport's Matt Hayden established a new single-season program record for victories with his 11th of the year against Wesley. That broke his own previous mark of 10, which he set as a freshman in 2014 and equaled as a sophomore in 2015 ... Frostburg State earned a split on the week by downing Southern Virginia 15-6 and losing to No. 1 Salisbury 13-3. Senior Erik Geiser won 19-of-31 faceoffs and picked up 13 ground balls for the Bobcats ... Junior Mike Marson turned in a big week for Mary Washington, who won a pair of road games. He had three goals and two assists as the Eagles topped St. Mary's, 13-7, on Wednesday, and then added two goals and one assist, including the game-winner with just two seconds left, as the Eagles topped Catholic, 15-14, on Saturday ... Marymount's John Kailunas posted a career defensive day on Saturday, causing a career- and game-high four turnovers while scooping up a career- and team-high five groundballs ... St. Mary's Conor Jordan tallied six points (4g, 2a), three ground balls, and two caused turnovers in a key conference win over Marymount to keep St. Mary's playoffs hopes alive. Max Alderman collected 27 saves and a 57.4 save percentage in a 1-1 week for St. Mary's ... Southern Virginia's Casey Rich led the Knights with four goals against York. Rich leads the CAC in goals (44) this season ... Jack Redefer paced the Wesley offense on the week, dishing off an assist against York and scoring four goals with two assists against Christopher Newport. The senior leads Wesley with 37 goals on the year ... York senior Andrew Gamble helped the Spartans to a 2-1 week with three goals and four assists on the week. For the year, Gamble has 43 points on 28 goals and 15 assists in 15 games. He has seven man-up goals, 29 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. York senior defender Josh Kluver has 41 ground balls, 23 caused turnovers and three points on two goals and an assist this season.
