Strong Defensive Effort Carries Salisbury Men's Lacrosse Past Roanoke in NCAA First Round
No. 8 Salisbury defeated Roanoke 6-3 in a low-scoring affair on Wednesday night at Sea Gull Stadium in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sea Gulls improve to 16-4 with the win, while Roanoke ends its season at 12-7.
With the win, Salisbury moves on to the NCAA second round against No. 7 Stevenson, a 12-5 winner over Eastern. The second round contest will be played on Saturday at a location and time to be announced. Check back to cacsports.com as more information becomes available.
The Sea Gull defense held the Maroons to only 24 shots in the game, while forcing 10 of Roanoke's 22 turnovers. Senior Marty Wallace paced the team with three caused turnovers, while seniors Knute Kraus and Austin Kemp each tallied two.
Sean Fitzgerald led the SU offense with three points on a goal and two assists, while Carson Kalama scored twice. Goalkeeper Connor Anderson turned back eight shots to earn the win in net.
