2nd-Seeded Frostburg State Men's Lacrosse Advances to ECAC Championship With 24-15 Win Over Centenary
The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team advances to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a decisive 24-15 victory over Centenary, Saturday afternoon.
FSU advances to the championship and will
face the winner of Albright/Lebanon Valley on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
The contest will be played at host and top-seeded Albright
College.
The Bobcats (13-6) led in shots (54), at
least 10 in each quarter, ground balls (26) and clears
(16-for-20).
The Cyclones (14-4) started firing right
out of the gate, scoring the first five goals of the
contest.
Bobcat sophomore Devin Colegrove
finally put FSU on the board with seven minutes left to play in the
first quarter. Classmate Greg Bourne struck soon after
that with an unassisted goal.
Centenary found one last goal of the
quarter from Robert Nuzzolese, who notched his fourth goal of the
quarter.
FSU posted the final two goals of the first
quarter to post the score at 6-4 in favor of the
hosts.
Cyclone senior Cameron Gunn scored
back-to-back goals to open up the second frame but then the Bobcats
went to work.
Frostburg strung together a nine-goal run
in which eight Bobcats contributed at least one goal each. The
Cyclones found one goal with merely 30 seconds left as both teams
went into halftime with the Bobcats up 13-9.
The Bobcats outscored Centenary in both
quarters of the second half. The third quarter was propelled by
senior Ryan Serio who netted four
goals, including two back-to-back to close out the frame posting
the score at 20-13.
The Bobcat offense continued to push in the
fourth quarter, as four separate Bobcats found the net to close out
the game 24-15.
Serio continued his late season offensive
push, finishing with seven goals, two assists and three ground
balls. The senior midfielder has notched at least four goals in the
last five games.
Colegrove and Bourne netted four goals each
while Spenser Love contributed one
goal and donated four assists.
Gunn led the Cyclones with five goals while
Conor Nolan handed out five assists.
