Hood Wins Men's Lacrosse Showdown Vs. Marymount, But Saints Win Three-Team Tiebreaker Coin Toss To Advance To CAC Playoffs

Hood needed a win Thursday against Marymount to create a three-way tie for sixth place in the CAC men's lacrosse standings.  The Blazers got that win on the field, but then watched as the Saints won the coin toss to earn the sixth and final seed in the 2012 CAC playoffs.

Hood (4-12, 2-6 CAC) defeated the Marymount (5-10, 2-6 CAC) by a 10-6 margin Thursday at Thomas Athletic Field.

The win forced the Blazers and Saints into a three-way tie for sixth place with Wesley College. All three schools had identical conference records against each other, so the sixth spot in the playoffs was determined by a coin flip. Hood was the odd team out of the resulting coin flip, and since Marymount had defeated Wesley head-to-head in the regular season, the Saints secured the sixth and final playoff spot in the CAC tournament and will travel to third-seeded St. Mary's College Sunday.

First-year Shane O'Keefe was virtually unstoppable on offense, scoring three goals and assisting on three more for the Blazers. Senior Corey Roberts had a memorable senior day by netting a hat trick to bring his career goal total to 63. He is three goals away from tying former teammate and current assistant coach Kris Miner '11 for the all-time lead in that category.

Hood scored the first three goals of the game and led 6-3 at halftime.  Marymount, led by Eric Windell's two goals, never got closer as the Blazers scored the first two goals of the third quarter and pulled away for the win.
