The Mary Washington men's golf team opened its first spring season with a first-place finish at the Myrtle Beach Kickoff Invitational, while Christopher Newport sophomore David Rabil tied for the individual title at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate.
In its first year as a varsity sport, UMW took first among five teams at the Myrtle Beach Kickoff with a two-day total of 619 strokes at Burning Ridge Golf Club. The championship is the first in program history. In one of the top Division III tournaments of the spring, CNU's Rabil tied for first at the prestigious Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate with a 36-hole 145 (+1). Joining him at the top of the leaderboard was his teammate Harry Nodwell (+2), who backed up a sixth place finish in the tournament last year by tying for third this season. As a team, the Captains finished tied for 12th with a team total of 618.
York has also opened its spring season, falling to Rosemont 297-310 in a dual match in Myrtle Beach.
