York, William Paterson and New Jersey City Open Spring Men's Golf Seasons; Six CAC Teams Compete Over Weekend

A trio of CAC teams opened up their spring men's golf campaigns this past weekend, as six conference squads were in action of the past few days. York, New Jersey City and William Paterson each competed for the first time in 2015 over the weekend, while Christopher Newport, Marymount and Wesley also took to the course. 

Christopher Newport and Marymount each traveled to the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Tournament in Jacksonville, N.C. CNU qualified for the Championship Round on Sunday, competing on the Gold Course, while Marymount competed in a separate division on the third and final day of the event. CNU took 11th of 15 teams on the Gold Course and Marymount placed 11th of 14 teams on the Scarlet Course. 

The Captains went 279-315-313 for a three-day total of 907 (+51). After 54 holes, sophomore Harry Nodwell signed a 221, good for seven-over par and the top CNU mark. On Sunday, Nodwell led all CNU scorers with a 76, just one stroke off his Saturday score of 75. Sophomore Charlie Peavley picked up six strokes on his Saturday score of 83 by posting a 77 on day three, one stroke back of Nodwell. Junior Patrick Johnson was six-over in the championship round and rounded out a 68-77-78 performance to finish just two shy of Nodwell's tournament score with a 223. 

For Marymount, Brad Johnson led the way with a three-day total of 233, while Kyle Weitendork came in at 239. 

Wesley and York both competed at the McDaniel Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa. on Saturday and Sunday. In the 18-team field, York placed 12th with a two-day total of 668, while Wesley placed 18th at 716. 

York was led by sophomore Alex Colton, who tied for 25th with a two-day total of 161. Ryan Wolbach was the second Spartan in the individual standings at 166 in 43rd place. Dylan Chessher and Tyler Spielberger finished in a tie for 63rd of 92 golfers to pace Wesley, shooting a 171 (+27) over the two days. 

The Wolverines then concluded a busy stretch of days by taking sixth place out of nine teams at the Immaculata Spring Invitational on Monday at Pickering Valley Golf Club in Phoenixville, Pa. Spielberger led the way with a 10-over par 82 to tie for fourth place. 

William Paterson and New Jersey City competed in a tri-match with Yeshiva on at Galloping Hill Golf Club in Kenilworth, N.J. William Paterson won the tri-match with 317 strokes, followed by Yeshiva (355) and New Jersey City (414). 

William Paterson sophomore Christian Foti had the best round of the day with a five-over 76, followed by junior James Nuzzo with a +7 78 to place third. New Jersey City freshman Tyler Young had his best score as a Gothic Knight, placing 7th overall with a +13 round of 84. 

William Paterson then competed at the Susquehanna Invitational on Monday, finishing fourth of seven teams. The Pioneers posted a team total of 341 at the blustery par-68, 6,289-yard Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Junior James Nuzzo paced the Pioneers with an 80 (+12) to tie for sixth overall, followed by sophomore Christian Foti with an 81 (+13, ninth).
