Scarborough Fourth Individually, Wesley 10th Entering Final Day Of NCAA Div. III Golf Championship
Will Scarborough had an up and down day in the third round of the NCAA Division III Golf Championships and is now tied for fourth at seven over par. No. 24 Wesley sits in 10th place through 54 holes at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia.
Scarborough, a senior from Dover, Delaware, entered the day in second place overall before shooting a 77 on Thursday. He is now one of five golfers in a logjam tied for fourth in the tournament. Scarborough turned in four birdies on the afternoon, but also had just seven pars on his scorecard.
Scott Harris, Jr. of No. 15 St. John Fisher continues to dominate the field and enters the final round at minus-three, seven strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. The Cardinals also lead the team standings at +41, four shots ahead of the No. 11 University of Redlands.
Senior Mike Rushin shot an even par 71 in the third round to climb 35 places on the leaderboard and enters the final round tied for 35th at +16. He birdied three holes on the afternoon and was one under on the front nine.
Andrew Geyer continued his steady play with a 78 and is now tied for 72nd place at +23. Sophomore Chris Osberg shot a 78 for the second straight day, powered by a birdie on the first hole, and is tied for 86th at +27. Riley Powers is in a tie for 101st place at +30 after shooting an 82 in the third round.
As a team, Wesley is 10th at +68, four shots behind ninth place No. 4 Huntingdon.
After St. John Fisher and Redlands, No. 1 Methodist is third at +48. No. 3 St. John's (Minn.) (+49) and No. 2 Oglethorpe (+53) round out top five.
Chris Green of No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan is second overall at +4. At +6, Nathaniel James of No. 19 Washington & Lee is one shot ahead of Scarborough, Redlands' Ross Canavan, Greensboro's Josh Cumming, Lucas Murray of Mount Union, and Scott Pugh of Oglethorpe.
