Christopher Newport's Krikorian, Daly Earn Top All-District Awards from NABC; CNU's Carter and Salisbury's Smith Also Honored

Complete List of NABC All-District Teams

Christopher Newport head coach John Krikorian and senior Tim Daly earned top awards on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District team, while CNU junior Marcus Carter and Salisbury senior Wyatt Smith also received recognition from the organization on Wednesday.

Krikorian was named Middle Atlantic District Coach of the Year, Daly was named District Player of the Year and first-team All-District, Carter earned first-team honors, and Smith landed on the second team.

Krikorian, the Coach of the Year in the CAC, led the CNU squad to a 27-3 record and a second-consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. His teams have won both the regular and post-season championships in the CAC the last two seasons, and last year he guided the Christopher Newport program to its first-ever Final Four.

Daly was the Player of the Year in the CAC this season. He averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game this season for the Captains. Daly will play this Saturday in the College Senior All-Star Game at the Salem Civic Center during Final Four weekend.

Carter was a first team All-CAC selection and scored 13 points per game while pulling down seven rebounds per contest. He was an All-American selection last season, the first-ever sophomore to achieve the honor in CNU men's basketball history.

Both Daly and Carter eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for their careers this season. Daly concluded his career with 1283 points, 14th on the all-time scoring list at CNU, while Carter has posted 1228 points through three seasons and is 18th on the list.

It marks the second straight season the Captains have been awarded the top two district honors. Last year, Carter was selected the District Player of the Year, and Krikorian also was named the Coach of the Year.

Salisbury's Smith was named to the second team after earning All-CAC first team honors, second team All-Region accolades from D3hoops.com and ECAC South all-star honors.

Smith led Salisbury in scoring with 15.5 points per game, hitting 44.1% of his shots and just under 70% from the free-throw line. In his two-year career with Salisbury, Smith scored 801 points. Smith also grabbed eight rebounds per game, which led the team this year and ranked third in the CAC. He blocked 44 shots this season and finished with 76 in his career, which ranks sixth in program history.

Smith led Salisbury to a 20-8 record, a runner-up finish in the CAC, and an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament.
