Christopher Newport will become the third men's basketball team in CAC history to compete in the NCAA Final Four on Friday night, when the Captains (30-1) take on St. Thomas (Minn.) at 7:30 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.

In the opening national semifinal Friday, Amherst (26-5) plays Benedictine (30-0). The winners will play for the National Championship on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

The Final Four appearance is the first in the 49-year history of CNU men's basketball, and the first in the CAC since 2005. The two previous CAC teams to reach the Final Four were York in 2005 and Catholic in 2001. York finished fourth in 2005 and Catholic won the title in 2001.

CNU advanced to the national semifinals with NCAA Tournament victories over Lycoming, NYU, Keene State and Wooster in rounds one through four, respectively.

The Captains are 14-0 on the road this season, and have posted a 16-1 mark in home games. Christopher Newport's lone loss of the season came on Dec. 30th to Scranton, 65-58, at the Freeman Center.

The Final Four matchup will be CNU's first game ever with the College of St. Thomas. The Tommies are 28-3 this year, and are playing in the Final Four for the third time in the last six years. St. Thomas won the National Championship in 2011. Over the last eight seasons, St. Thomas has Division III's best record at 209-30 for a winning percentage of .874.
