Christopher Newport sophomore Marcus Carter earned a pair of All-America honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com. Carter was selected first-team All-America by the NABC and fourth team by D3hoops.com. 

Carter has collected numerous postseason honors this year, as he was named All-District in the Middle Atlantic, and District Player of the Year, and was selected All-Region by d3hoops.com.

Carter was selected the Player of the Year in the Capital Athletic Conference this season, and was twice picked as the league's Player of the Week.

CNU's season ended last Friday night with a 66-62 loss to St. Thomas (Minn.) in the national semifinals. St. Thomas went on to win the NCAA Championship by beating Benedictine on Saturday night in Salem.

The Captains set a new school record for victories, going 30-2 in addition to winning the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season and post-season title. Carter, from Bruton High School, led CNU by averaging 15.7 points per game, and also averaged 7.0 rebounds per contest.

He became just the third first team All-America in men's basketball history, joining Lamont Strothers and Antoine Sinclair. Carter is the first CNU player ever to receive the first team All-America recognition in just his sophomore season.
