St. Mary's Defeats MIT, 85-76, And Wesley Loses at Williams, 79-78, In Opening Round Of 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament
CAC champion St. Mary's picked up a nine-point home victory, but second-place finisher Wesley dropped its second-straight one-point decision on the road in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.
SMC sophomore guard Nick LaGuerre tallied a team-high 19 points while Donn Hill added 17 to lead the Seahawks (25-3) to a 75-67 victory over visiting MIT. The Seahawks will challenge Middle Atlantic Conf. Commonwealth League champion Alvernia in a second-round matchup on March 9.
At Williamstown, Mass., despite a career-high 35 points by Paul Reynolds, the Wesley was edged by No. 8 Williams College, 79-78 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at Chandler Gymnasium on Saturday night. It was the same score as the 2013 CAC Championship game, when the Wolverines (20-8) lost at St. Mary's in overtime.
