INTRODUCING ... Wesley College Senior Men's Basketball Point Guard Chris Douglas

Wesley College junior point guard Chris Douglas, this week’s Capital Athletic Conference “INTRODUCING …” featured student-athlete, is enjoying a breakout season in 2010-11.  After playing in just seven games as a freshman in 2007-08 and losing the following year to an injury suffered in the season opener, Douglas has worked hard and is in his second year as a starter for the Wolverines.  The Landover, Md., native is currently averaging over 15 points per game to rank among the CAC leaders.

What is your background in the sport you play?  I have played three years for Wesley starting at point guard. I was injured my sophomore when I broke my foot and was out for the season.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  I would have to say my favorite spot on campus at Wesley College is probably the College Center. The college center is where you can relax between classes and interact with friends during the breaks.  I really like because it takes my mind off the schoolwork and it is a comfortable area for me. Most of my teammates usually go there after their classes so we can talk about last night’s game or any type of sports conversation.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.   I think my most memorable experience was when we won a holiday tournament in Florida in the 2008-09 season. We beat two ranked teams, and as a team, I think became closer. It was just fun being with the team because we started to bond with each other and you could tell on the court. After that tournament, we went on a big winning streak and made the NCAA tournament.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  The biggest issue facing college students, I think would be money because most students have hard time buying books and dealing with loans. With the recession, it is very hard for college students to have money all the time and they struggle with that issue the most.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?   I would change the NBA rule were high school students can’t go straight to the NBA. I believe if the kid wants to go then they should be allowed to do that.  I understand they want kids to get an education, but what is one year going to do but waste their time. If education was the case, then they should make the kids go three years in school.  So I just think they should just go back to allowing kids go to the NBA from high school.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   My major in school is Business Administration and I minor in International Business. The most important thing I learned is how to be successful in the business world and the need to have good management skills.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?   I really don’t have anyone outside my family that influenced me over my life. My family is the only inspiration I need.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?   If I could give one piece of advice to the elementary kids, it would be to follow your dreams and don’t ever let anyone stop you from doing that.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?   My favorite form of entertainment would have to be watching movies. I love movies especially mafia movies like Goodfellas.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?   My favorite sports team is the New England Patriots. I like the Patriots not just because they win all the time, but they show great teamwork and it seems like they are family on and off the field. They have great leadership and that is what I like the most.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   The first person I would want to have dinner with would be President Obama because he is an awesome president and I feel like we would have a great conversation about everything and he is a big basketball player and fan.

The second person would be Michael Jordan because he is the best basketball player ever and it has always been my dream to meet him.

The third person I would want to have dinner with would be Martin Luther King, Jr. because without him, the world could be a crazy place now. He stood up for our rights and to have dinner with Mr. King would be a dream come true.
