INTRODUCING ... Gallaudet Senior Men's Basketball Forward Sekoe White

This week's INTRODUCING feature on the CAC website highlights Gallaudet Sr. men's basketball forward Sekoe White, who is fourth in the conference in both scoring and rebounding for the 7-4 Bison.

What is the background in the sport you play? I played 4 years of high school basketball in Kentucky, and this is my fourth year playing at Gallaudet.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is the weight room!! It helps me relax my mind and think about life while working out.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students? Here at Gallaudet, it's self-identity because we face double oppression. First as a deaf person, then other "isms" like racism, sexism, and audism.

What is your major and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline? My major is Communication Studies. I've learned to listen and watch what people say and what they mean by what they say, because it can be easy to misunderstand something and it becomes a big thing.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life? My boys "OAKS and R": O-Onye Davis, A-Anthony Baskin, K-Kazeem Badatende, S-Sekoe White, and R-Robert Zamdrena.  They have helped me get to where I am today in college thanks to our pact to support each other.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be? Dream big and work on every small and big thing so you can reach your dreams.

What is your favorite form of entertainment? Writing and reading music lyrics and watching music videos.

Name 3 people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with:
Jesus - I'm a strong Christan and he saved my life.  He also saved my relationship with my family.
Martin Luther King, Jr and Malcolm X. - I have many quotes of theirs that I live by. They are my heros. I am insprired by them as a black person because they fought for me to be where I am today.
Beyonce Knowles.  I know that's four but I can't leave Beyonce out.  She's a beautiful woman.  Any man would want to be around her.
