Rashawn Johnson, Brandon Altmann And Camontae Griffin Named To D3hoops.com All-Region Men's Basketball Team

Wesley College senior Rashawn Johnson, the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year, earned first-team recognition and was one of three CAC players named to the 2009 D3hoops.com Middle Atlantic All-Region team.

Joining Johnson on the all-region team were Mary Washington junior center Brandon Altmann and St. Mary's College (Md.) junior guard Camontae Griffin.  Altmann was a second-team All-Region selection while Griffin was a third-team choice.

All three players were previously named to the 2009 first-team All-CAC squad.   Johnson earned all-conference and all-region recognition in each of his four collegiate seasons.  Altmann and Griffin gained all-conference and all-region honors for the firts time this season.

Johnson is also a finalist for the 2009 Josten's Trophy, the Division III Player of the Year Award.  He was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was chosen first team all-conference after pacing the league in scoring at 24.0 points per game.

His CAC leading points per game was nearly four points better than the next best average and ranks seventh in the nation.  Johnson also led the circuit in three-point field goals (3.1 per game) and ranked among the conference leaders in minutes played (second, 37.7 per game), steals (third, 1.9 per game), free throw percentage (sixth, .763).  With 83 three-point field goals this season, he broke his own single season record at Wesley.

Johnson holds Wesley records for career points (2,388), three-point field goals (294) and free throws made (398), and ranks fourth all-time in rebounds (599) and steals (173). 

Behind Johnson's efforts, the Wolverines won a school record 18 games and advanced to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. 

Altmann led UMW to a 14-12 overall record and a third-place finish in the CAC regular season.  He led the Eagles in scoring (17.1), rebounding (11.1) and blocked shots (43).  He was sixth in the conference in scoring, tops in rebounding, second in blocked shots and was the only player in the CAC to average a double-double this season.

Griffin led St. Mary's to a 21-5 overall record, 14-2 and first place in the CAC.  The Sea Hawks were the No. 1 team in the region heading into the CAC Tournament.  He paced SMC in scoring with a 20.4 average, which ranked second in the CAC.  He also ranked second on the team in three-point goals (31), three-point percentage (.341), free throw percentage (.782), assists (75) and steals (43).
