Twelve CAC Players Named To NFHCA All South Region Team
Twelve Capital Athletic Conference players, including CAC Co-Players of the Year Kandice Hancock of Salisbury and Emily Smithson of St. Mary's, were named to the 2008 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All South Region team.
Hancock, a sophomore midfielder, was one of five Salisbury players named to the All-Region team. She is a two-time first-team All-CAC player and was the 2007 conference Rookie of the Year.
Joining Hancock on the All-region first team was junior forward Lauren Correll while teammates Beverly Beladino, Tara McGovern and Michelle Rowe all earned second-team all-region recognition.
Smithson, a senior midfielder, was also a first-team all-region honoree. In addition to sharing the 2008 CAC Player of the Year award with Hancock, Smithson is making her second all-region team appearance after earning All-CAC honors for the third time in her career.
Wesley sophomore forward Brooke Tadlock and Stevenson sophomore keeper Kara Zimmerman were also 2008 Longstreth/NFHCA All South Region first-team selections. Tadlock and Zimmerman were both named to the All-CAC team for the first time this season.
Stevenson placed a second player on the second-team All-Region squad - senior Cat Connelly - while Mary Washington earned a pair of second-team berths in junior midfielder Jaci Marshall and sophomore back Heidi Sheehan.
York senior forward April McFarland, a three-time All-CAC pick and 2005 Rookie of the Year, gave the conference seven players on the second-team all-region squad.
