UMW’s Rizzo, CNU’s Morrison Receive C2C Weekly Baseball Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2026 baseball season.  Mary Washington's George Rizzo was named C2C Player of the Week, while Christopher Newport's Ryan Morrison earned C2C Pitcher of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: George Rizzo, Mary Washington

Mary Washington junior George Rizzo went 4-for-9 (.444) with three walks, a home run and stole a pair of bases in three games this past week. On Tuesday against Eastern Mennonite, Rizzo led the game off with a home run, while walking twice and scoring a pair of runs. Against Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, the right fielder scored a run after being hit-by-a-pitch in the 5-2 victory. And against No. 7 Salisbury on Saturday, Rizzo went 3-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases as he scored a pair of runs as UMW's lead-off hitter in its 7-2 victory over the Sea Gulls.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Morrison, Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior Ryan Morrison pitched the second no-hitter in program history on Sunday afternoon when he blanked St. Mary's College of Maryland over seven innings in a 13-0 win. He allowed just three base runners and none of them advanced beyond first base as he faced just three batters over the minimum. Morrison struck out a career-high eight batters and induced 10 groundball outs in the impressive performance as he improved to 2-0 on the season. During the no-hitter, he retired the side in order four times in seven innings.

HONORABLE MENTION

PLAYER: Nathan Tondreault, Salisbury; Dylan Oblepias, Regent; Jake Benedict, Christopher Newport

PITCHER: Aidan Brinsfield, Salisbury; Gavin Riley, Mary Washington

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Nathan Tondreault slashed .313/.476/.750 with a double, two homers, six runs, seven RBIs, two steals, and a 1.226 OPS during the Sea Gulls' 3-1 week. On Wednesday at Ursinus he registered his first collegiate multi-homer game, stroking two homers with five RBIs as part of a 22-2 dub… Regent's Dylan Oblepias went 7 for 14 from the plate with a batting average of .500 in four games this week. In the three-game sweep over Johnson and Wales, he hit two home runs and two doubles and posted 11 RBIs. In addition, he scored six runs. His performance helped the Royals go 3-1 for the week… Christopher Newport's Jake Benedict led the Captains offense from the top of the lineup this week by hitting .444 (8-18) and slugging .833. The senior center fielder also made one of the biggest plays defensively with the final out of a no-hitter against St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday. On a well-hit ball to deep center field, Benedict tracked it down and made a leaping grab on the warning track to lock up the second no-no in program history. At the plate, Benedict blasted a pair of home runs including his second grand slam of the season. He had three multi-hit games and leads the team with 13 this season… Salisbury's Aidan Brinsfield tossed six innings of two-run (one earned), two-hit ball to pick up the win in the Sea Gulls' 22-2 drubbing of Ursinus on Wednesday. He walked two and struck out four en route to his third victory of the year… In his lone start of the week, Mary Washington's Gavin Riley was nothing short of dominant as the lefty tossed seven stellar innings over No. 7 Salisbury in the Eagles' upset 7-2 victory on Saturday. Riley picked up his second victory of the season against a ranked opponent, yielding just two runs on six hits and one hit batter. He struck out seven batters -- and completed his sixth outing this season of going at least four innings and yielding three or fewer runs.
