Salisbury Senior Andrew Levy Named To Capital One Second-Team Academic All-America Baseball Team

Salisbury University senior right-handed pitcher Andrew Levy was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team for baseball, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Wednesday.

Levy is the 21st Salisbury student-athlete to be awarded the distinction, fourth baseball player and first since right-hander Eric Willey claimed second-team honors in 2009.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Levy, who graduated with a 3.52 GPA in accounting earlier this month, was a two-time all-district selection. He also earned honorable mention All-American and first team All-region status from D3baseball.com this season.

He went 10-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 16 games and 99 1/3 innings in 2013. Levy had a team-leading four complete games and 64 strikeouts. Levy was named to the All-CAC second team this season and finished his career third in Salisbury history in games started (37), seventh in innings pitched (244 2/3), tied for seventh in wins (23) and ninth in strikeouts (161).

A Hampstead, Md., native, Levy finished his final season with a single-season win total which is tied for third best in school history. He also had the fourth most innings pitched in a single season.

Levy was second nationally in starts, tied for seventh in wins and 83rd in strikeouts.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 18,000 student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

Salisbury (33-9) won its 11th CAC championship, advancing to its 14th straight NCAA tournament. The Sea Gulls fell in the NCAA South Region championship to Millsaps College, 7-6.
