Six From CAC Named To ABCA South Region All-Star Team

Six baseball players from the CAC, including five from Salisbury and one from Frostburg State, have been named to the 2013 ABCA/Rawlings Division III South All-Region Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

Salisbury senior right-handed pitcher Andrew Levy, junior first baseman Quinn Griffith and sophomore left-hander Dan Fein and Frostburg State junior outfielder and CAC Player of the Year Kevin Kean earned first-team honors.

Sea Gull senior outfielder Nick Gentry claimed second-team recognition and senior designated hitter Evan Graci took third-team accolades.

The all-region award is the fifth postseason honor for Kean this spring after posting some of the top offensive numbers in the country.

Kean led the Bobcats in eight statistical categories, including batting average (.423), slugging percentage (.662), runs (44), hits (60), triples (5), total bases (94), walks (21) and stolen bases (14). He led the Capital Athletic Conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage (.506) and tied for the league lead in triples. He was voted as the CAC's Player of the Year.

With the NCAA Division III baseball season now complete, Kean finished the year ranked 23rd in the nation in batting average, 25th in on-base percentage, 33rd in slugging percentage, 34th in triples and 57th in runs per game.

A Millersville, Md. native, Kean is the 17th ABCA All-American for the Bobcat baseball program and first since 2011.

Frostburg State finished the 2013 season with a 25-15 overall record and advanced to the CAC Tournament for the third-straight season.

Levy was 10-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 16 games and 99 1/3 innings in 2013. He had a team-leading four complete games and 64 strikeouts, finishing his career third in Salisbury history in games started (37), seventh in innings pitched (244 2/3), tied for seventh in wins (23) and ninth in strikeouts (161).

Griffith hit a team-best .399 (59-for-148), starting all 42 games this season. He also led the team in hits, slugging percentage (.561), on-base percentage (.505), doubles (15), total bases (83) and walks (25). Griffith's doubles total was tied for 10th most in a single season at SU.

Fein appeared in 12 games, including eight starts, earning a 10-0 record and a single-season school-record 1.35 ERA in 66 2/3 innings. He had three complete games and one shutout, while striking out 45 and walking 16. Both Fein's and Levy's win total tied them for third in single-season program history.

Gentry batted .356 (57-for-160), starting all 42 games this season. He led the team in runs scored (50), RBIs (37), triples (two), home runs (five) and stolen bases (23). His stolen-base total is 10th highest in a single season for the Sea Gulls.

Graci hit .389 (56-for-144) in 40 starts. He was second on the team in batting average, third in hits, RBIs (34), on-base percentage (.459) and total bases (73).

Salisbury (33-9) won its 11th CAC championship to advance to the NCAA tournament for the 14th straight year. The Sea Gulls lost in the NCAA South Regional championship game to Millsaps College.
