Christopher Newport University Sweeps C2C Commissioner's Cup Trophies
Christopher Newport University captured ten titles among the 18 conference sports to sweep all three categories of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) all-sports award competition. The Captains finished atop the standings in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award, the Men's Commissioner's Award and the Women's Commissioner's Award.
In addition to their ten team championships, the CNU Captains compiled runner-up finishes in the remaining eight sports en route to a 91.5 percentage total in the 2021-22 Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award standings. CNU totaled 92.9 percent of the possible points in ten women's sports and 89.5 percent in the eight men's sports to win the overall competition by 18.8% over UC Santa Cruz.
Christopher Newport earned team championships in volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, and softball throughout the 2021-22 school year.
It marks the fifth C2C (formerly CAC) all-sports trophy for the Captains and first since the 2017-18 season. The Women's Commissioner's Award is also the fifth overall for CNU, while they secured the Men's Commissioner's Award for the third time.
UC Santa Cruz placed second overall with two C2C titles in men's and women's cross country. The Banana Slugs compiled a 72.7 percentage in the all-sports standings, including 80 percent in the women's standings to finish second. UCSC finished fourth in the men's standings at 62.5 percent.
Salisbury landed in third place in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award rankings with a 68.1 percent total. The Sea Gulls won four titles in men's and women's lacrosse, baseball and field hockey en route to second-place in the Men's Commissioner's Standings (67.1) and third in the Women's Commissioner's Standings (68.8).
Mary Washington tallied 63.3 percent to claim fourth place in the all-sports standings. The Eagles won C2C titles in men's and women's tennis. UMW finished third in the men's (63.2) and fourth in women's (63.4) standings.
Mills (32.1) finished in fifth place with Finlandia (31.3) close behind in sixth place. Mount Mary (26.8) and Pratt (24.0) round out the standings in in seventh and eight positions, respectively.
